Christmas Time

Christmas is my favourite time of year. Nothing beats the magic of Christmas.
My diary for December is always full, juggling Christmas shopping, house chores and visiting friends and family.

Decorating the house for Christmas is the first task.

The wrought iron fireplace is draped with garlands, stockings and lights. Decorating the Christmas tree and burning pine, spice or cinnamon-scented candles to create a welcoming ambience is Christmas magic at its best!

Christmas lunch is a cornerstone of the holiday season, a time for loved ones to gather around a bountiful table and celebrate with delicious food, warm company, and festive cheer. But beyond the culinary delights, the table sets the stage for this cherished occasion. Let's explore how to transform your dining space, brimming with charm and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Decide on a theme, be it classic red and green, a winter wonderland with icy blues and whites, or a rustic touch with natural elements like pinecones and wood. Choose a cohesive colour palette for the tablecloth, napkins, and tableware to ie the look together.

Create a stunning centrepiece that reflects your theme. Use fresh greenery like garland, poinsettias, or pine cones paired with candles, ornaments, or even miniature Christmas trees. For a touch of whimsy, add fairy lights or small figurines.

Elevate your table settings with beautiful dishes. Opt for festive colours or patterns, or keep it classic with white porcelain accented by bold or silver flatware. Remember, mismatched vintage pieces can add a unique charm.

Place personalized name cards or festive napkin rings at each setting for a special touch. You can even add small gifts or handwritten notes, creating a sense of warmth and appreciation for your guests.

Embrace the spirit of Christmas with classic dishes like roasted turkey, glazed ham, or vegetarian Wellington. Don't forget the sides-creamy mashed potatoes or roast potatoes, flavourful stuffing, and roasted vegetables are always crowd-pleasers.

Experiment with unique spices and herbs, or introduce lighter options like roasted salmon or vegetable terrines. Offer a variety of dishes to cater to different dietary preferences.

No Christmas lunch is complete without decadent desserts. From rich Yule logs and fruitcakes to gingerbread cookies and spiced puddings, indulge your guest's sweet tooth with various festive treats.

Enhance the culinary experience with carefully chosen wines. Pair a light Pinot Noir with turkey, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc with seafood, and a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with a hearty roast. Don't forget a sparkling wine for a celebratory toast!

Planning your menu and shopping list will ensure a stress-free holiday. Delegate tasks and involve family members in the preparations to create a shared experience. Take time to arrange your dishes attractively on platters and bowls. Garnish with fresh herbs or festive sprinkles for an extra touch of magic. Above all, remember that the most important ingredient is creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for your loved ones. Relax, enjoy the company, and savour the spirit of the season!
